…but it wasn’t.
Dog-sat for a good friend last night…so got the privilege of waking up to this cutie this morning. Miss Honey Bee visits often, which makes my oh-so-friendly cat, Cricket, very moody.
Then headed into the studio for most of the day to finish up some last minute projects before heading to the beach next week. (More on that later!) I’m making personalized pillow cases for the whole vacation group, and embroidering the beach vacation logo on them. I know, I know, I might be an overachiever!
It’s been a long day of sewing today. Only five more days until beach time!

This weekend, Sun Soo Taekwondo held it’s August Belt Testing. I’m not in the photo, but a few of my good TKD friends are. Congrats to everyone who tested. And super congrats to Calvin and Chris who earned their First Degree Black Belts. One day I’ll be there… but for now I’m a new Yellow/Green Belt!

It’s rare, but occasionally Michie will sew a quilt made entirely out of Batiks.
Just needs binding.

Tuesday is officially Geek Day! Not for any particular reason, other then a day every week SHOULD be dedicated to all things geeky.
This is my weekly post of my favorite geeky Etsy seller. I simply go to Etsy.com and search for “Geeky”…and voila! Shameless plug… if you haven’t been to MY Etsy page, you can find it here!
This week:

It's a Back to the Future T-shirt. What could be better?
Super awesome t-shirts, with a super geeky message.

Video game humor makes me smile.

Yesterday was rough. In fact, there may have been a meltdown. But, at least it was a super productive meltdown. I am probably more motivated now then I have ever been. Thanks to people who have faith in me and support me as I make this incredibly hard transition into starting my own business. I believe I can do it, and up until yesterday I wasn’t quite sure I could say those words. But, this is what I want to do with my life. I want to design quilts. I want to make quilts. I want to teach other people how to make quilts. And I want to do it without hiding who I am. Being queer and super proud of it, because this is who I am.
I am also a Hollins girl… errr woman. I’ve been told (and I know this for a fact) that Hollins women can do anything.
This is going to be difficult. Hard. And I’m sure, I’ll still need a lot of support from friends and family and random quilty strangers. Words of encouragement are always welcome. Probably a lot more tears. but let’s start with some very basic things.
Start saving money. This is way more difficult then it sounds. Isn’t it always? But it’s the starting point for anyone wanting to start their own small business. I am going to be responsible for my income, and some months will be better then others, but the mortgage will always be the same. And when things get a little more difficult, I’m going to have to dip into my savings account for a little help. Over the course of the next few months, I’m going to be open and honest about how difficult this proves, what little things I’m actually doing. No excuses.
Saving Tip Number 1. Drink Water. I know this sounds so crazy, but I can’t function without it, and I know I’m not drinking enough of it. My Nalgene Water Bottle holds approximately 32 oz of water. I need to drink just two of these a day to feel good. Possibly three if it’s a particularly sweaty day. Plus, if I’m busy drinking water, I’m not purchasing a soda or sweet tea from the restaurant next door. That’s $2 I can save every day. $2/day x 5 days/week x 4 weeks/month = $40/mo!
There is also a time-line I want to make about what I see happening in the next year, but I’m not quite ready to do that. Soon though. Right now, I’m going to drink my coffee and finishing binding on a quilt.
